CWG Preperations Newport

This weekend, I attended Newport Indoor Bowls Club to watch Wales and England Commonwealth Games players demonstrate their skills on the indoor surface as they continue their preparations for the event in Glasgow later in July and August.

It was a pleasure to see world-class players from both teams in action. The standard of bowling across both days was exceptional and, at times, truly spellbinding.

I would like to thank Newport Indoor Bowls Club and its members for their warm welcome, hospitality, refreshments, and use of their excellent facilities. Thanks are also due to the members who assisted with marking, and to the local players who supported the VI and Para bowlers over the course of the weekend.

Special recognition should go to Team Managers Anwen, Chris and John for their enthusiasm, knowledge, diligence, and continued commitment to supporting the players. I would also like to acknowledge Helen, Steve, Mark and Adrian for their valued support throughout the weekend. In addition, my thanks go to the umpires and markers who gave many hours of their time both on and off the green.

It was also encouraging to see live streaming being made available, which is something WLB is committed to developing and providing in the future.

Finally, having seen the standard of bowls produced by the Welsh players, I am very confident that Wales will return to the Principality with medals. The next event takes place on 23 and 24 May in Desborough, and I look forward to attending once again to support the WLB players and team members.
