OBITUARY: Barry Fleming

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Barry Fleming, a highly respected figure within the Welsh bowls community.

Barry dedicated many decades of service to the sport he cherished, holding numerous prominent roles throughout his life. He served as President of the Welsh Bowling Association in 1988 and later as British Isles President in 2005. A Life Member of Welsh Lawn Bowls, Barry contributed greatly as a Welsh men’s team manager and continued to share his expertise as a Welsh selector until 2023. He was also a valued and committed member of the Welsh Executive and was proud to be a Barbarian, reflecting his longstanding commitment and contribution to the sport.

At his home club, Machynlleth Bowling Club, Barry held many official positions over the years, leaving a legacy that will endure long into the future.

His achievements on the green were equally distinguished. Barry became Welsh National Mixed Pairs Champion in 2004 alongside his wife, Betty, and later in 2008 achieved the honour of Welsh National Men’s Fours Champion with his son, Andrew.

Our heartfelt thoughts are with his wife Betty, his family, and all who were fortunate enough to call him a friend.
